Destination Downtown

August 11 – 13, 2006

"Destination Downtown," sponsored by the Brunswick Downtown Association and the Pejepscot Historical Society, takes place in Downtown Brunswick the weekend of August 11 - 13.   Events include Civil War re-enactor encampment on the Mall in downtown Brunswick, Second Friday Art Walk, community dance and family activities.  Pejepscot Historical Society will host historic craft demonstrations and open its museum doors.

A civil war coloring contest will also take place two weeks prior to the event.    Prizes to be announced.  Please watch for more information in local papers as the event draws near.  The following list shows a just a few of the events planned:

Friday, August 11
3:00 p.m: 20th Maine Civil War Re-enactors Encampment begins on the Mall, downtown Brunswick.
5:00 - 8:00 p.m:  Second Friday Art Walk in Downtown Brunswick sponsored by the Five Rivers Arts Alliance.
7:00 - 9:00 p.m: Dance will be held at the gazebo on the mall featuring Ti' Acadie.

Saturday, August 12th
All Day: 20th Maine Civil War Re-enactors Encampment continues throughout the day with Civil War Period activities.
10:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m: Pejepscot Historical Society (PHS) Museums open.  
PHS will host two historic craft demonstrations featuring Ron Raiselis, a cooper, and Mason McBrien, a furniture maker, throughout the day on their grounds.  PHS will also host a variety of family activities focusing on historical games.  For FMI, please contact PHS at (207) 729-6606.
10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m: Kids mural painting, Maine Street, Brunswick (location to be announced).
Kids ceramic painting in the style of Jackson Pollock, in front of Clay Play, 124 Maine St.
Horse and wagon ride and historical tour beginning on the Mall, traveling down Maine St. and back up Federal St.  A trivia contest will be held with prizes awarded at the end of the day.
2:00 p.m: "Pooch parade” will be held for dogs and their owners.  Prizes will be awarded so bring your favorite four-legged friend and join us for a fun mid-afternoon walk down Maine Street!

Sunday, August 13th
20th Maine Civil War Re-enactors break camp.
